1710 Pigmented inkjet Printer

New 1710 Pigmented inkjet Printer Announced

WOOD DALE, Ill. (USA) — July 29, 2011 — For applications that require easily readable variable data codes on dark or difficult to mark materials, Videojet Technologies Inc. has designed the new Videojet® 1710 small character continuous inkjet printer. The printer uses high-contrast, pigmented inks to create bright, clean codes on surfaces for which dye-based inks are not effective, such as colored glass, rubber tubing, plastic cabling and dark paperboard.

The Videojet 1710 printer can apply up to five lines of high-resolution print at speeds up to 888 feet per minute (271 m/min.). It is capable of printing a variety of fonts in multiple languages, as well as linear bar codes, 2D DataMatrix codes, custom logos and graphics.

“Videojet designed the 1710 printer to have the benefits of the best-selling Videojet 1000 Line of inkjet printers, but re-engineered the inside for the unique properties of pigmented inks,” says Scott Benigni, Videojet continuous inkjet product manager. “The heart of the new unit is the innovative “Core” which was designed specifically for pigmented inks. Patented technology ensures that pigments are continuously kept in suspension, preventing the clogging that is often associated with pigmented printers. The result is an industry-leading 4,000-hour core life, delivering the longest and most predictable time period before preventive maintenance for pigmented inkjet printers.”

Simple maintenance, reliable operation

The 1710 features Videojet’s Advanced Clean Flow printhead design that maximizes uptime by reducing the frequency of printhead cleanings, even with the toughest pigment inks. The Videojet 1710 uses the proven Smart Cartridge™ fluid system in use at tens of thousands of production lines across the world. By reading the embedded microchip, the printer confirms that compatible fluid has been installed to prevent errors in ink types or switching make-up and ink fluids. Saving time and money, the Smart Cartridge fluid system is designed to drain completely, wasting no residual fluids. The needle-and-septum design eliminates the need for operators to pour ink, preventing fluid spillage and waste.

Designed to deliver reliable operation in intermittent duty-cycle operations, the Videojet 1710 can be put into “standby” mode with power to the unit but not printing for up to two weeks, and then be put on line and ready to print in less than 6 minutes. This is made possible by the unit’s automatic flush at shut down, automated stirring of the ink, the aforementioned Core and software to manage ink and printer recirculation. Core change out is simple and mess-free, and can be done by the user. Pigmented filters and components with similar life spans are clustered for reliability and easy maintenance.

The Videojet 1710 is easy to integrate into existing systems with advanced connectivity technology, including its USB port, which allows for hot swapping print jobs and backing up messages. The convenience of off-site control and diagnostics via Ethernet capability through CLARiSOFT® and CLARiNET® software enables simple, seamless real-time message changes. Troubleshooting is a simple matter of pressing a button on the operator interface; a pop-up window assists the operator in assessing the issue and resolving it.

Videojet® 1510 inkjet Printer

Revolutionary New Videojet® 1510 inkjet Printer Maximizes Uptime, Simplifies Maintenance, Provides Consistent Codes In Any Setting

Industry-first Smart Cartridges™ virtually eliminate fluid replacement mistakes

For Immediate Release

WOOD DALE, Ill. (USA) – [DATE], 2008 – The Videojet® 1510 small-character continuous inkjet printer from Videojet Technologies Inc. is the first in a new line of printers that sets a higher standard in marking and coding performance for maximum uptime. The Videojet 1510 is easy to operate through its intuitive user interface and a simplified fluid replacement system with the industry’s first microchip-enabled fluid bottles, called Smart Cartridges™. A unique printhead automatically sets up and adjusts to environment changes, resulting in consistently sharp print quality in even the most challenging environments.

“The Videojet 1510 design is a direct result of extensive feedback from Videojet customers who indicated that production line uptime and consistently high print quality were their top coding concerns,” says Scott Benigni, Videojet small character inkjet product manager. “Videojet has responded with a small character inkjet printer with ‘smart’ features that virtually eliminate operator mistakes and provide long intervals between maintenance, facilitating uptime peace of mind.”

Designed for medium-duty applications that involve printing codes roughly 16 to 20 hours per day/six days per week, the Videojet 1510 is ideal for the food, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical and personal care/cosmetic industries. It is the first release in the new Videojet 1000 Line of small character continuous inkjet printers.

No mess, no waste, no mistake
The Videojet 1510 features the industry’s first Smart Cartridges, which are fluid bottles with a microchip that identifies whether compatible fluid has been installed, to prevent errors in ink types or switching make-up and ink bottles. Smart Cartridges are uniquely shaped to drain completely, wasting no residual ink to further reduce costs. A needle-and-septum design eliminates the need for operators to pour ink, preventing fluid spillage and waste.

The integrated Core, which consolidates the printer’s key ink system components into one part, requires preventative maintenance only every 9,000 hours, or 18 months for medium-duty applications. A countdown meter on the user interface indicates time remaining until the Core must be changed. Core changeout is simple and mess-free; it is designed to be customer-replaceable in 30 minutes without requiring a visit from a trained technician.
Consistently sharp print quality.

Coding applications can happen in extremely diverse environments, which is why Videojet developed the Dynamic Calibration™ feature.

“Extreme hot and cold conditions can interfere with ink viscosity, which affects print sharpness and quality,” Benigni says. “The Videojet 1510 printhead automatically adjusts based on changes in the environment to ensure consistent code quality regardless of the current conditions. That means operators don’t need to spend time manually adjusting the printhead.”

Integrating the Videojet 1510 is simple via its USB port, which allows for hot-swapping print jobs and backing up messages. The convenience of off-site control and diagnostics via Ethernet capability through Connector™ software allows for simple, seamless real-time message changes. Trouble-shooting is a simple matter of pressing a button on the operator interface; a pop-up window assists the operator in assessing the issue and resolving it.

Videojet Track & Trace Web Site

New Videojet Track & Trace Web Site Offers Information to Protect Brands, Meet Regulations

For Immediate Release

WOOD DALE, Ill. (USA) — May 27, 2008 — Videojet Technologies Inc., provider of the industry’s most comprehensive systems for track and trace applications, has launched a new Web site that provides information about Videojet solutions for protecting brands against the effects of counterfeiting, diversion and product recalls through track and trace safeguards. The Web site, www.videojet.com/trackandtrace, outlines how a complete track and trace solution from Videojet melds together unique product codes; an appropriate variable data marking and coding technology; and tracking software to essentially “fingerprint” an individual product, and by extension, its brand. This information is also essential to companies that must meet government track and trace regulations.

“Government bodies worldwide are implementing electronic pedigree regulations and other product-tracking mandates,” says Bob Neagle, business unit manager of Videojet’s brand protection solutions group. “In fact, California’s e-pedigree requirement will go into effect on Jan.1, 2011, and other states and numerous European Union countries are also rapidly moving forward in formulating similar mandates. Track and trace systems and consultation from Videojet help companies prepare for the regulations with which they will need to comply.”

In today’s global marketplace, an effective track and trace strategy is vital to protecting brands from threats that can severely impact their equity in the marketplace, including:

  • Product recalls: It is crucial for manufacturers to track a shipment down to the unit level during a recall, so products can be located and removed quickly from the supply chain.
  • Counterfeiting: Counterfeiting costs U.S. businesses at least $200 billion annually. A track and trace infrastructure can verify whether a product is genuine or counterfeit.
  • Diversion (unauthorized distribution): When products are diverted to unintended retail outlets, it creates ill will within the legitimate sales channel. A track and trace system can help manufacturers identify where, and by whom, products were diverted.

Videojet offers a consultative approach to implementing a complete product tracking system like the IMprints™ Track & Trace Solution, thus minimizing production-floor disruptions and downtime. Each installation begins with a site analysis to ensure IMprints components will integrate with every aspect of a business. Videojet then develops an integration proposal, which is executed by a project management team and followed up by ongoing service after deployment.

IP-Rated Videojet DataFlex Plus | Videojet

NEW IP-Rated Videojet DataFlex® Plus Thermal Transfer Overprinter Provides Protection In Harsh Environments

For Immediate Release

WOOD DALE, Ill. (USA) — January 13, 2009 — The Videojet DataFlex® Plus thermal transfer overprinter (TTO) from Videojet Technologies Inc. is now available with an Ingress Protection (IP) rating for the 53mm printer width version. The IP-rated DataFlex Plus version offers an IP65-rated printer unit and an IP55-rated graphical user interface (GUI) control unit that provides protection against dust and water ingress, making it ideally suited to hygienic packaging applications, such as those found in meat processing plants.

Prior to cleaning, a line operator simply replaces the standard ribbon cassette of the IP-rated DataFlex Plus printer unit with the IP-rated cassette. By performing this simple task, the printer does not have to be removed from the production line or protected with a sheet during cleaning and washdown routines, saving time on pre-cleaning preparation and post-cleaning reinstallation and setup. The printer’s RS232, Ethernet, digital I/O and USB connections also are IP65-rated.

“The GUI control unit is now IP55-rated to enable operation in harsh environments, eliminating the need for additional bulky and cumbersome IP-rated enclosures,” says Andy Millar, Videojet TTO product manager. “These additional enclosures are often accidentally left open by operators during the cleaning process, which leads to control unit damage and costly repairs. The IP55-rating of the DataFlex Plus GUI eliminates this issue, as it is a sealed unit. “

Another key feature of the DataFlex Plus is a patented direct-drive ribbon technology with no wearable parts that increases reliability and minimizes downtime and costs associated with ribbon breaks. The 1,000-meter ribbon capacity is one of the longest standard lengths on the market, so there are less frequent changes and higher production line efficiencies. Additionally, the unit features the simplest ribbon cassette in the industry, making changeovers fast, easy and virtually fail-safe.

The bi-directional ribbon drive allows unused ribbon to be recaptured following each print, maintaining a 0.5 mm gap between prints to create more prints per roll and ensuring the highest efficiency. The patented ribbon drive allows printing as slow as zero mm per second and as fast as 1,000 mm per second in continuous applications, without degradation of print quality or printer performance.

The DataFlex Plus has the built-in capability to change between intermittent and continuous modes in right-hand or left-hand operation. Serial, Ethernet and USB communications are standard, delivering the most comprehensive communications package in the industry. An intuitive 8.4-inch SVGA graphical user interface with color touchscreen features easy-to-learn, icon-based controls.

Videojet 1210 inkjet Printer

New Videojet® 1210 inkjet printer offers maximum uptime for simple coding application

For Immediate Release

WOOD DALE, Ill. (USA) — [DATE], 2008 — The new Videojet® 1210 small character continuous inkjet printer from Videojet Technologies Inc. is ideal for simple coding applications that involve printing codes roughly six hours to eight hours per day, five days per week. The printer starts up with minimal maintenance, even after being off-line for several days, and offers simplified fluid replacement with the microchip-enabled Smart Cartridge™ fluid bottles. The Videojet 1210 is the second release in the 1000 Line of printers.

“This printer meets the needs of customers with simple code requirements such as lot and date codes in the food, chemical, and personal care or cosmetic industries,” says Kevin Honan, small character inkjet product manager at Videojet. “The Videojet 1210 is designed for low-utilization applications or applications that require mobility and flexibility for frequent production line changes.”

The Videojet 1210 features Smart Cartridge fluid bottles, which are microchipped and identify fluid-printer compatibility to prevent errors such as installing incorrect ink types. Smart Cartridge fluid bottles are uniquely shaped to drain completely, wasting no residual ink. A needle-and-septum design provides a clean, simple way to add ink without spillage and waste.

The printer’s modular core, which consolidates the printer’s key ink system components into one part, requires preventive maintenance only every 6,000 hours, or approximately 18 months, for low-duty applications. A countdown meter on the user interface indicates time remaining until the core must be changed. Core changeout is simple and mess-free; it is designed to be customer-replaceable in 30 minutes without requiring a visit from a trained technician.

Coding applications can happen in extremely diverse environments, which is why Videojet developed the Dynamic Calibration feature for the 1000 Line. Extreme hot and cold conditions can interfere with ink viscosity, which negatively impacts print sharpness and quality. The printhead on the Videojet 1210 automatically adjusts based on changes in the environment to ensure consistent code quality regardless of the current conditions. That means operators won’t spend time manually adjusting the printhead.

Integrating the Videojet 1210 into a production line is seamless via its USB port, which allows for hot swapping print jobs and backing up messages. Troubleshooting is a simple matter of pressing a button on the operator interface; a pop-up window assists the operator in assessing the issue and resolving it.

The Videojet 1210 release follows the highly successful launch of the Videojet 1510 printer, designed for operation in medium-duty applications that involve printing codes roughly 16 to 20 hours per day/six days per week. The 1000 line of revolutionary inkjet printers set a higher standard in marking and coding performance for maximum uptime.
